The main thing with cigarettes is to first break the drug power of the nicotine and then to replace the habit. Most research suggests that you actually might need to smoke more cigarettes to quit. Let me explain that though, because its confusing! :)

What you want to do first is take a couple of days to figure out exactly how many you smoke a day, then you want to reduce that by 10-30% a day each day for a week. At the end of the week, what you need to do is switch brands of cigarettes. You want to switch to a brand that has less nicotine than the previous brand. Then you start the process over. Make sure there is at least 30% less nicotine in the cigarettes you are switching to, that'll allow you to quit in less than a month.

When you switch brands of cigarettes, the numbers start completely over. Smoke as many as you need to, you can try to "hold back" if you think you can, but whatever you smoke the first couple of days, that's your number. Smoke 10-30% less per day until a week is over. Now you want to buy a different brand of cigarettes, one that is at least 60% less nicotine than the original first type of cigarette you smoked.

Repeat this process until you are on a 0 to very little nicotine cigarette. At this point, it finally becomes time to break the habit of smoking.

Some people use gum, gum is okay because it puts something in your mouth, which is the main habit of cigarettes (most people smoke them when they are nervous). Some people chew toothpicks, others have a pocket full of peppermint or jolly ranchers.

Another important thing, after the month has passed is not to put yourself in the situation where you would normally smoke a cigarette. If its ona smoke break at work, rather than going outside, go to a lounge and relax or simply continue working. Stay away from bars and the like for a while.

Lastly, setting up a money system contingent on your behavior (after you have quit completely) can really help. Find a friend (not your closest friend, but someone that you see everyday), and tell them that any time you smoke a cigarette, they get $1 (or 2 or 5, whatever will control your behavior best, but something you are still willing to pay, for example, don't say 1 million, because you'll never pay). Encourage them to call and check up on you and if you smoked a cigarette be honest.

You can use minerals for a bunch of things.  There's a thread that explains it but I can't find it.  Basically, you can buy things and bet on things at the Forge. You can also mug other users for their minerals by going to their profile page and clicking mug, or you can get mugged.  You can buy resets for the league.  Sometimes sig artists will make you pay them minerals to make you a sig as well.  That's pretty much it.
