Okay, so it wasn't quite on time, but isn't there a saying that goes something like "better late than never"? Despite the delay, granted it wasn't even a full day, VGT29 is here. VGT28 brought a new champion in both 1v1 ladders and the battle was as intense and as fierce as ever - and nothing less should be expected this season.

With that being said, that is the good news. The bad news is that VGT will end on October 31st at 11:59 pm...for good. Yes, you read correctly. VGT29 will be the last season as far as Starcraft and Brood War are concerned.

One more season, one more champion.

In the future VGT may return for another ride, but on Starcraft 2. With that information in mind, let's send VGT, the greatest fastest league to ever exist out in proper fashion. Muster up the final strength and energy to battle for the top spots...one last time. Who will be known as "the final VGT champion"? You have until October 31st at 11:59pm to determine the answer.

The 28th season as many probably predicated and have noticed did not muster the numbers of past seasons, but it certainly didn't lack some stiff competition in the quest to be #1. After a 1 week extension the league managed to total just over 25,000 matches for the 7 week season. Both BW and SC 1v1 ladders managed to crown new champions this season. Blade[zT] managed to win his first SC 1v1 title while MiMeTiC won his title on the BW 1v1 side by a mere 23 points.

In the BW 1v1 ladder, the top 5 players all achieved the rank however none managed to hold onto the rank unlike the SC 1v1 ladder which had two players achieve the ranking.

Over the past two years, VG's pride and joy, VGT has made a habit of scrapping history and it's record books every 8 weeks and this past 8 week period (figuring in the 2 week break after each season) was no different.. Or was it? The past season's have seen a marginal growth in games from season to season which with the release of Starcraft 2 around the corner, the beta phase 1 complete, and the general age of Starcraft and it's expansion Brood War factored in is a great accomplishment in itself. Despite VGT's critics that love to say "So and so isn't active at all", the numbers never fail to tell the real story.

VGT is back and open for business! The restless two week wait is over and the action is underway, so join the ranks and fight your way to the top. The 27th season of the Vile Gaming Tour started last night at midnight and will become history on the 19th of June at 11:59 pm. With 6 weeks of solid competition, I am confident that we will continue to see a rise in games. With over 27,000 games played last season, and the glory of SC on the clock (SC2 is right around the corner you know), will you be participating?

With the Starcraft 2 Beta well underway and thousands more people joining as a result of the recent Beta key give-a-way with a pre-order of Starcraft 2, logic would tell you that the number of league matches in VGT26 would have slipped a bit, if not drastically.

That couldn't have been a worse assumption. VGT26 picked up right where VGT25 left off. VGT26 smashed the 6 week record for matches played, coming in at over 27,000 which is more than 1,500 more than last season. It may even be possible that the SC2 Beta has helped the number of matches grow as more and more former players return to the Starcraft community.
