League updates
Comments (2)Posted by Spartan[nK] on Sep 27, '08 in News / VGT
I have for you today a few reminders about some league features and changes. All of which are meant to further improve the league experience for every player, while at the same time helping boost activity
I'll start off with the more important change first. Effective immediately there is a new way to gain extra points in each league, known as "milestones". These are geared towards rewarding players with high playing activity. Players can achieve these points through meeting the requirements below.
- Play 100 matches, earn 150 points.
- Play 200 matches, earn 300 points.
- Play 300 matches, earn 450 points.
- Win 50 matches, earn 100 points.
- Win 100 matches, earn 200 points.
- Win 150 matches, earn 300 points.
Please take note that if you reset your record then the counters will default to zero again.
As for the reminders, a little over a week ago I added some new features to the leagues, here they are..

On each league's drop down menu you will notice a new link named that says "Activity". Click it.
This page shows each league's overall activity, which can be viewed by days or hours.

Vile Gaming Tour Week 3
Comments (5)Posted by Nova on Sep 20, '08 in News / VGT
As week 3 comes to a close we find that the Vile Gaming Tour saw 1,269 SC games played. Also the BW section saw 1,152 BW games played. With over 2,000 games played last week we saw a lot of changing in the standings!!! Continue reading to hear more about the current standings!
The top 3 players on Original StarCraft have separated themselves slightly from the pack. Dream(Slayer) is the first player to achieve the S rank this season, so congratulations to him for that, he is one of the few players that has not shifted position since the start of the season. La.Woots is nestled in the middle of the A1 rank and is only a few games off from achieving an S rank. Our 3rd place player, Mafia.KeleVran sits on top of the A2 rank and is eagerly looking for breaking into A1 and possibly even S rank this coming week!
The BroodWar section of StarCraft in 1v1 does not have that large separation that the leaders of the SC section enjoyed this week. Less than 500 points, more or less 7 wins, separate 1st place from 15th place. That means that this week saw a huge amount of place changing going on in the top 50 of the division. Six players have all achieved A rank credentials so congratulations to them. Sitting in 1st place by the end of the week is Pro]Hardy- who is always a tough contender for the 1st place seat. Following Pro]Hardy- is BattleCheese- who sits only 16 points behind, but also having played 9 less games than Pro]Hardy-. Lastly, we have Phoenix[FF] sitting in the 3rd place spot and only 34 points behind Pro]Hardy-. One win for either BattleCheese- or Phoenix[FF] could send them easily into 1st place.
Now, lets not forget our 2v2 sections. The 2v2 section has been going great this year and VG would like to thank all the participants in that!
The Original StarCraft 2v2 has seen 268 games played this past week. That's a lot of players getting involved! Pro]Hardy- the leader of the 1v1 BW section also leads the 2v2 SC section with a 10 game winning streak currently! A testament to how active he is in both sections! In 2nd place we have L]o[sT_Sinn, who partners with Pro]Hardy- sometimes. An amazing combo that has lead them to the top. In 3rd place we see BroKeN)ViLLaiN who has the least amount of games played in the top 5. Lastly, VG would like to recognize clan [Light] who has an amazing 4 players in the top 10!
In BW StarCraft 2v2 VGT has seen 263 games played this past week, with even more players getting involved than SC 2v2. Our first place player, Pretty[yG] has an amazing record consisting of only 4 losses and has pulled 250 points ahead of the 2nd place player. NextYear who holds the 2nd place position by 24 points, has only played 2 games in the past 2 days so expect to see a lot more from in the next week in order to catch back up to Pretty[yG]. In third place we have Silent.Touch- who after going 5-5 yesterday only managed to gain 24 points. Look for Touch- to have a much more impressive run this upcoming week!

New league map

I have added another map to the league. This one answers the call to many players that lack the level of skill needed to adapt to any position on the map. No longer can a player complain that they only lost because they had the middle spot and all that good stuff. I present to you: Corners.
Corners is the exact same layout as Space, but all the middle spot starting locations are removed. The minerals and vespene are still in the middle spots for expansion purposes. So every player will spawn in one of the four corners. Nothing else was changed aside from that. However, alterations may occur to the map over the next few weeks as we see how the map pans out in-game.
Remember, playing on this map is optional. I do hope that everyone gives the map a chance as they might actually prefer it over Space, after a few matches.
Are the chokes still too small? Do the bases need to be larger? If you have any suggestions about the map, then please feel free to report back here.
You can download Corners now on each league's map page. Also, a hefty batch of new semi maps will be added in the following days so stay frosty for those. :)

Update on VGT17's rewards

Don't panic just yet! The total of cash prizes is still $600. As it stands, and as previously mentioned by me, it is $300 per league, then $150 per ladder. However, if one league fails to reach at least 8,000 matches played in total, then that league's cash prizes will be added onto the other league.
For example, say that VGT:SC finishes off this season with under 8,000 matches played, then that league will get no cash prizes and the $600 will be spread among the VGT:BW league's top players.
So the planned $80, $50, and $20 rewards for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places would be swapped with a new arrangement. The top 5 players of the 2 main ladders of the more active league will get rewards. The new rewards would be $100, $80, $60, $40, and $20 to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th placed players.
Now of course I know no player wants that to happen to their league and everyone wants their chance at the money. So let's keep the activity skyrocketing, folks. Just rememeber, no matter the outcome there will still be $600 to give away at the end of this season!

I'd like to welcome you all to another season of your favorite league. I have a lot of awesome features planned throughout the season, some of which you will see real soon, and I am sure you will all be pleased thoroughly. Most important of which is the return of a revamped and optimized team ladder, with a better warring system.
However, what I'm sure most of you are stoked about is the official announcement of.. cash prizes! For the 1v1 ladder and 2v2 solo ladder, of each section of the league, there will be a total of $150 in rewards. That is a total of a whopping $600 in cash. How is this possible you ask? Through the wonderful, and sometimes annoying, advertisements throughout the site (see, I told you all that they would pay off in the long run). First place of each ladder will get $80, second place gets $50, and third gets $20. There will not be a finals tournament at the end of the season to determine the final winners. The top three players of each ladder will walk away with the prizes.
Additionally, we will be emphasizing a lot of semi map play this season. So expect to see a lot of tournaments and special events held in weeks to come. We hope you all participate if possible. The semi maps are a hidden gem that most players do not give a few minutes of their time to try out, but I'm sure that would love them after doing so.
All that said and done, here is hoping for another great season. Good luck and have fun! See you on Battle.net. :)
