VGT vs SCD Ultimate Confrontation

Comments (16)Posted by Nova on Jul 30, '08 in News / VGT

VGT and SCD proudly present the first annual Ultimate Confrontation. Both sites have active participation in their leagues and forums so why not have an official confrontation while having some fun doing it!!!

The event will be set up with 5 players from each side in round robin format versing the 5 players from the other side in best of three style. However, who those five players are going to be is still a mystery because you the members are going to vote for them! The first step of this event if going to be a thread where players can assign their allegiance to a particular site. That thread is located here on VG;

http://vilegaming.com/forums.x/topics/9558

and here on SCD;

http://starcraftdream.com/showthread.php?p=1001181

Any player that wants a chance to participate in this event must post in one of these threads simply stating which side they would be willing to play for! Both is not an option. :)

BlizzCon Tickets on Sale August 11
For anyone considering a trip to this year’s BlizzCon (October 10-11 in Anaheim, California), tickets will go on sale worldwide on Monday, August 11 for $100 each through our website. BlizzCon is a celebration of the communities surrounding all of our games, and features discussion panels, hands-on play, contests, tournaments, and more; we look forward to meeting some of you there!

Even if you can’t make it out in person, though, you can still experience some highlights of the weekend. StarCraft II Q&A - Batch 42

Comments (0)Posted by Spartan[nK] on Jul 28, '08 in News

Here is a fresh batch right out of the Blizzard oven. Mostly mapping and modding information, which is very pleasing to say the least, while there are some tidbits about individual units such as the Terran Battlecruiser.

---StarCraft II Q&A Batch 42---

1. What was the main reasoning to shifting the Hydralisk backwards one technology level? How does this affect the Zerg early-game, especially since the Zerg will have absolutely no anti-air units before the Hydralisks? (gamereplays.org)

Actually, the Hydralisk has been brought back down to Tier 1.5, giving Zerg early anti-air capabilities without upgrading their Hatchery to a Lair. The test originally was to put Hydralisks at a later tech and have Corruptors be buildable earlier without a prerequisite building other than upgrading to the Lair. To make this happen, the Corruptors had to be nerfed appropriately to fit that tech, which made it very weak and much less fun. Additionally, without a prerequisite building, opposing players could not scout the Zerg player to see when they were going air, which did not fit the gameplay style we were shooting for.

2. What kinds of cheats will be included in Starcraft 2, and how will they be accessed/unlocked? (starcraft.org)

There will be cheats, but you wont know what they are from us :) sorry.

3. Concerning resources there is one big issue for mapmakers: There are only two of them. For many UMS-maps you need more different resource-types than gas and minerals, thus mapmakers were forced to use even civilians as a sort of resource. So will mapmakers be able to place their one, gather-able resources on the map such as lumber or gold? (starcraft2.4players.de)

Yes, we have recently added support for one additional custom resource type. Additional custom resources types may be implemented in the future, but there are no plans at the moment.

A third resource? Sounds cool! This addition will surely provide for some interesting maps, both traditional melee and custom.

Blizzard has presented us with another lore-based filler on the Terran planet Mar Sara. Though, lore aside, the new screenshots are proof that StarCraft II is really shaping up to be one hell of a visual joy ride.

Change to ranking system: decay for tier A

Comments (1)Posted by Spartan[nK] on Jul 24, '08 in News / VGT

Effective immediately is the following stipulation:
Reference
Decay for tier A players.
At 2am everyday, another check will be performed that checks each tier A player to see if they played at least 1 match in the past 24 hours. Any player that is found to not have done so will lose 15 points.

This was added in hopes of encouraging more inner tier A matches, while at the same time prevent people from just sitting up top. Now before you start crying about how it is unfair you have to realize that the 15 points you can lose is so minor that it will hardly affect your standing, but only on the rarest occasions. One of the effects of this is that it provides as a warning for tier A players to try and at least play a match a day.
