Whether you spend your days and nights on VG.com, or just pop in from time to time, there's no denying that the VG Community Awards are something that everybody is going to be following.  I think it is safe to say that every single one of us that has seen the Voting Thread, has scanned it in it's entirety, frantically searching for his or her name.  Sure you probably want to kill yourself when DOG[G]FATHER or KinG-MeMz get votes that you feel you deserve.  But when you come across a post with your name on it, you forget about all the people you -char'd for forgetting to mention you and it's all worth it.

Now there are going to be a few awards that a member runs away with.  Like even if Spartan were to write an apology to each individual he ever offended, along with 3 months of Premium Membership and pictures of him saving orphaned bunnies from the claws of death, he is still going to win the Most Abusive Admin award.  But don't worry folks, I plan on stepping up my game to win the title next year.

So head on over to the VG's Community Awards thread and cast your vote, because even though you might not be in the running for Most Insightful, we still care what you think :)

Strife Strife Strife Strife Strife Beta is Here

You may or may not have noticed that all of our issues up to now have included SOMETHING about the upcoming Strife. If by now you don’t know what it is, you must be living under a rock, because there have been numerous updates, releases, posts, headlines and chatter about the future of this SC based MMO. In fact, the great majority of Kris’ time coding has recently been spent on this soon to be released feature. Not to worry though, because if you really don’t know what it is, and you’ve really missed all the updates, then I’m here to help.

This week’s Head Admin Updates is a summary on Strife, its current features, and it’s future.

So what is Strife exactly? Well, as mentioned several times, Strife is a browser based MMO that will focus on arena game play while controlling a squad of SC units. The style will be similar to that of MyBrute.com and the art will resemble that of TyrantRave’s VG Comics. The Strife Beta has just been released, and it strongly resembles the final version except that the final version will include artwork while the Beta just has a textual description of the fight.

So what has been released so far? If there’s one thing you can count on recently, It’s Spartan’s frequent updates/changes and add-ons for his latest project. Here is a list of the add-ons to date and a brief description on what they are.

Logging In/Logging Out – You’ve gotta start somewhere right?
Standings and Battles – Added a list of team standings as well as a list of all battles that have occurred to date, replay included.
Player Profiles – Profile including a list of teams, their level, record, as well as anything else needed to manage and play Strife.
Strife Home/My Teams – Home base of operations with a list of recent actions, teams and navigation to everything else.
Account Page Up – Personal stats, such as friends, teams created, units trained etc added.
Market – Buying new units to add to your team now available.
Upgrades – Like RTS SC, you can upgrade your units for better productivity.

As you can see, there are many aspects already released, but there is a lot more left before Strife is completed. We ask any user to test out any of the given features, look for any bugs, and make any suggestions in the Strife Forums, because in order for this game to be the best it can be, we need to be sure the users playing the game are satisfied. No Diablo III in 2010, New hope for SC2.

A recent Blizzard presentation has left the majority of the Diablo series fans in woe, as Blizzard announced that Diablo III, although currently in production, is set to be released in the “next few years”. That may not come as a surprise to most, as the announcement of Diablo III came after the announcement for Starcraft II, yet Blizzard’s recent delays in the SCII beta had many fans speculating that the third installment of Diablo would be released before the sequel to StarCraft. Well the vagueness has been cleared, as Blizzard has now said numerous times that SCII is planned for next year along with the next expansion to World of Warcraft, WOW: Cataclysm.

Although Blizzard executives continue to give disappointing results as to the release dates of their next generation games, we can be assured that they are taking their time in perfecting the games to make it most enjoyable for the fans. Surprisingly enough, this delay in Diablo has made many Starcraft fans assume that Blizzard is focusing most of their efforts on releasing SCII asap. After all, Blizzard can’t delay ALL their new games right? We sure do hope not.

VG Statistics

For those of you who love numbers, facts, concrete evidence, or simply someone who enjoys seeing numerical success, then is this the article for you! Now this isn’t a really new feature, nor is it something groundbreaking that will change the way you browse the site, but it is a particularly unnoticed part of the site that can give a great insight to how things are going.

I’m talking about all of the statistics features that you can look at while browsing the site. First and foremost, the Statistics Page which can be located by clicking Home -> Statistics gives a breakdown of user preferences, flags breakdown, themes, clans, and many more. You can also look at Post Activity in the navigation block to your left, as well as Comment Activity, which will give you a monthly, yearly, daily, and hourly breakdown of the site activity VG has. Clicking on the (charisma) links will give you a list of charismatic posters and the topics in which they gained the highest amount of charisma.

For stats specific to topics, every single thread has a (statistics) link at the top right corner of the OP. Clicking this will give you the threads amount of posts, amount of views, the topics current status, the post breakdown by day, as well as the most active posters and the charisma handed out in that thread.

Remember, as VG continues to grow, you can expect more statistics to be added to links, and you can also expect all of the current stats to increase exponentially!
