-=BeWArE=- -=PosT Is LonG=- Hello everybody. i came here to ask for help with testing a new (and actually pretty good so far) fastest possible map. i can't seem to host games unless someone breaks lat with me. (which is why im posting here to get help.) if your interested in helping my i use the same name: LasT]v[AgiCiaN on USEast and USWest. althought u will probably not see me on west. IF YOU DO NOT FIND ME ON USEAST UNDER THE NAME LasT]v[AgiCiaN I AM PROBABLY SLEEPING OR DOING CHORES. JUST COME TO MY DEFULAT CHANNEL: Op Tea]v[ and send a message to my bots!! ok, what is this map/why am i making it?: i've decided that the old version of fastest is out of date (for so many reasons i dont think i can even list them all) the three main reason i think the map is out of date (even tho its played so mcuh) 1) Unfair Spots (this is obvious) 2) Unfair Matchups (some ppl will argue with you, but its true. there's unfair matchups) 3) not enough room for new, and actually effective, strategies. (its usually either cannon rush/proxy or triple nexus for protoss vs all races. which is in fact horrifically boring.) (if you dont feal like reading this next rant about the current fastest, skip down the to next paragraph) 3b) on fastest, players are "almost" forced to do certain strategies. ill explain what i mean briefly: imagine that we are playing TvP, you as the terran. we exclude all variables such as position and distance. what is the most likely thing you are to do up untill 15 minutes into the game? ill tell you. you will open up with 2 or 3 rax acad and start producing marines and medics. you will then hopefull secure a brief moment of breating room and probably make 2 more CC's. after this i see most of the time, players adding 2 or 3 factory and 6+more rax over the course of 6 minutes. the major problems with marine and medic vs protoss are: storm/reavers, not fighting in the open leaves no room to escape storms, and probably worst of all: cannons. yes you can make tanks but wihtout the support of your marine and medics your tanks are virtually useless. i think im done ranting about TvP for now. ok, i think i can fix these errors in the curren't fastest design. i think i can even make some of the matchups (such as ZvZ) less prone to boring turtle-fests in mid-late game. here's what i have done so far (most of these you will have to test the map with me to understand) 1) turned the map into a 4 player map, with each player having a corner base. 2) i have done a neat little design with the choke... 2a) i have added neutral buildings (that appear in melee) that allow terran to wall with exactly 2 depotes and protoss to wall with exactly 1 gateway. these can be destroyed to make the choke larger. 2b) i have made each choke much much larger (i can fit 3 diagonal rax in the corner chokes) but with the neutral buildings its possible to defend early game vs protoss. 2c) i have added a neutral sunken colonies (can be destroyered) so that zerg can make creep colonies at thier choke without having to build a hatchery there. i kept the creep just enough out of the way for protoss to still be able to try a small cannon rush at the choke, but close enough so that zerg wont need hatcheries. 2d) i made the ground in between each main (which is quite large) high ground. this opens up new strategyies for all races to use the cliffs to thier advantage. these middle cliff sites between each main are walled off with stacked sunken colonies (so you need to kill them to get up there) 3) the actual bases of each of the 4 mains are larger. not huge large but large enough for terran to make 4 layers of turrets around his base and still make 20 factories. 4) i did a neat little design at the begging of the game that flashes the letters VGT over each players spawn with a neutral recall spell. its actually quite amazing. ;) this map is WAAAY from finished and is going through balance testing (which is where you guys come in!!) We might even use this map as a Bonus map here at VGT (assuming the map is balanced, and maybe even the admins will have it a regular map of choice :D) P.S. if you think any of this stuff sounds stupid (about the map im making) come play it with me on battle.net and dick around (scout the map and think about the features) and i almost garantee you will change you mind. if you dont, tell whats wrong with the map. P.S.S. Please dont comment on my map before you play it. after you have played it, give me a reason why or why not you like the map. if you have no comment then i thank you for at least playing the map with me and giving me another replay to analyze. You should talk to Uber about variations on fastest, he is the only map maker to successfully make somewhat playable versions of fastest. |

current map is most definetly beta. although its playable there are a lot of things im still working on.
edit: lol, everyone i've shown map to likes it a lot. but nobody has gave me anything usefull to change!!! Honestly I agree. I like how you are using neautral unit as well because they do this in so of the pro games. To make securing a new expo easier for zerg and it slows down the expo for toss and ran. I will Glady help you test it at anytime. On east I am StealthySloth and on West I am The[Sloth].

I really like the idea - I've always thought fpm could be improved for fairness. I mean the orig map makes it interesting because of the unbalanced positioning. I'm pretty busy right now but would like to test it out. Cactuar[FF] is my name on both east and west.
Only concern is it making games longer due to more fairness lol (having a worse position sometimes forces you to try riskier strats to end it quiker. Also, since only 4 spots much easier to scout and rush faster. I still think its a great idea and look forward to trying it! p.s. why not attach the map file to your post so we can all dl it and try it out |

the creep... seems too much like you are promoting choking... without the need of the hatch @ expo zergs will become WAYYY too powerful

not really. I mean they can choke faster yes, but they still have to make that hatchery somewhere. And that hatch will get the same use. atleast by me because i usually use that hatchery to make drones for my choke. But It will help the zerg maintain a good flow for money especially in an early game.

i say keep the map the same but make it into a 2v2 map instead of a 4v4 and have all the spawning areas corners and leave the rest empty for expos and extra D
