VileGaming: Would you mind telling me your name and age?
Chris Lee: I'm Chris Lee and I'm 15 years old.
VG: Oh wow so you are a youngster. What do you like to do in your free time besides play Sc2? Do you do any school sports?
Illusion: I don't do school sports, I was going to do track or crew but it took up a lot of time and more commitment than I could look forward to. I do play guitar on the side and was a part of the school ensemble.
VG: Ohh nice. Being able to play the guitar is a great talent to have. What go you interested in Sc2? Did you play Sc/BW?
Illusion: I played a few custom games in BW when I was 6 but I didn't play it afterwards. I got interested in SC2 when I saw it release on a game store and I picked it up right on release date. All the other games were filled with hackers or they were just outright boring so I gave SC2 a shot.
VG: What did you think about Sc2 when you first started playing it? Did it come easy to you or did it take a while before you started getting good?
Illusion: I played a few hundred team games before I started to play 1v1s and by then I 5-0 my placement matches as Zerg. I got to Diamond within 15 games and then I stopped there until Masters league came out, which I got into and then stopped laddering. It wasn't until season 2 I started to play terran (around April) and I haven't regretted it since.
VG: What was it about Terran that made you switch races? And what was wrong with Zerg?
Illusion: Zerg doesn't have much APM needed to play it in my opinion, drops arent cost efficient and mutas arent very fun to me. I like multi pronged attacks and being costeffective with my units. as a zerg player, I didn't really miss my injects and I hit my creep tumors well, but I'd rather be using those extra actions on keeping my enemy on their toes.
VG: Was Vile the first team you joined or was there a previous clan?
Illusion: I was on Revoki
VG: Why did you decide to leave Revoki and join Vile? Was it for better practice or you saw a brighter future in Vile?
Illusion: Revoki wasn't really getting anywhere for me. I expected to go to better places and it didn't seem like it could provide me with the environment after Shadow(xSix) left. Eventually I looked around for a team and got a hold of hashe and things were all better from there
VG: Being part of a team with a lot of high end players, do you practice with them more often or with other pro players?
Illusion: Being a part of
team vile def. has helped me training schedule and offered higher levels of practice. I remember when I first got on the team, I would get demolished by Ryan but it's a
good game between us nowadays. I also do practice with other players as well as stream my ladder games. I find myself practicing with a lot more of other team members, just because there is more people and the different styles really do help
VG: True. Who is your favorite player to watch?
Illusion: I don't dedicate much of my time to watching but I love SeleCT
VG: He is indeed probably one of the best Terrans on NA. How many hours a day do you devote to practice and bettering yourself instead of laddering?
Illusion: I'm always practicing to become better, doesn't matter if it's ladder or practice games. I will play ladder on NA, EU and KR server and it serves as a good practice across all servers due to style differences and skill gaps. Although, I do like practicing off-ladder more as I can get feedback and my opponents thoughts. I will put in around the time I get home to the time I go to bed (besides naps, homework, etc.) so roughly 8 or so hours.
VG: Okay, how about like watching replays and working on builds? Do you just make up new builds on ladders and try them out there or do you get in custom games to try them out?
Illusion: Normally I will just think about anything interesting, or see if I can be different than other terrans out there. My recent "new build” is the reaper + hellion in tvz and tvt. Some have tried it I’m sure but I just thought of it one day and tried it out and it’s a pretty nice build. I remember hearing that qxc has tried it and so has juan (gositerran). Hashe has been trying the reaper hellion as well and he took a game off of colRyze with it (great player) so it mustn’t be too bad. I spend as little as 5 minutes on replays and sometimes over 30 minutes depending on the game’s pace and what I want to analyze, it’s a very deep process and I go over it on my stream.
VG: I like your style. Being a pro player do you have any advice to lower teir players to help them better their play style?
Illusion: Keep Practicing and don’t let one loss get you down. I didn’t expect to be where I am today, I used to get slumped over a few losses but now I learned that it’s a waste of time if you are looking down on yourself.
VG: Hey thanks! Any last shout outs you would like to give before we end this?
Illusion: Thanks for the interview, love my time on vile and check out my stream @ www.twitch.tv/illusioncss. Thanks x)
VG: Thank you for your time!
