Author: deadlyassassin
All on the battlefield was quiet and dead,
The sight as incomprehensible as the ambush just led.
My Goliath now lies lifeless on its side,
My body lying hidden within its stainless steel hide.
The Hellfire missile rack still smokes,
And oh, what memories that sight invokes.
I lean my head back and silently cry,
All of my friends now lay inert from a “peaceful solution” gone awry.
Why did my second skin have to betray me,
Armor piercing rounds; my legs ending at the knee.
My fallen Goliath slowly fills with my blood,
It washes over my horizontal body like a great red flood.
My shaking hand writes in my bloodstained journal,
“I am afraid the negotiations have failed, dear Colonel.”
He then blacked out and his fate was sealed,
At last all was silent and unmoving on that dead, lifeless field.
